the two brothers opened their first restaurant: Taj Mahal Restaurant Valencia. Raja Arshad took charge of the kitchen while Raja Aurangzeb managed the front of house, welcoming guests with warmth and hospitality. Together, they built a reputation for delicious food, honesty, and genuine service.

In the early 1980s
Raja Arshad, our founder, arrived in Spain.
With no place to stay and limited means, he began selling toys on the beach to survive — sometimes earning just enough for simple meals of onions and bread, and sleeping under his stall, at friends’ homes, or on park benches.

Restaurant gained popularity
They faced a new challenge.
finding fresh halal meat, authentic Indian spices, and traditional vegetables was extremely difficult in Valencia at the time. To support their own restaurant and help the small South Asian and Muslim community in the city, in 1999, our founders opened the first Taj Mahal Supermercado Valencia. It quickly became a vital hub, providing quality halal meat, fresh produce, and essential ingredients that were otherwise unavailable. What began as a solution for their own kitchen soon became a lifeline for many families.

In 1985
he found work as a dishwasher in an Indian restaurant.
Through sheer hard work, long hours, and a passion to learn, he rose through the ranks and became a chef, mastering his craft. Shortly after, his younger brother Raja Aurangzeb — our co-founder — also came to Spain. Selling roses on the streets, he worked tirelessly to support both their family back home and to build a future here.
